Summary

At zooplus we’ve been working with and gathering data of our e-commerce business for twenty years now and every day we acquire new forms and ways to do so. Dozens of development teams across zooplus are using different kinds of data technologies and the area data architects work closely with them.

Area data architects collaborate with other architects in their area and act as on-demand experts, partnering with the development teams during their development process. They also act as a bridge between the Data & Analytics department, the product areas they work in and the rest of IT.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work with the development teams helping to improve their data stores efficiency, support them when introducing new technologies or approaches like event streaming, and their change management process.

The focus of this role is on supporting, guiding, and training the teams to acquire the data skills they need to excel. But also, on ensuring data governance across dev teams.

At zooplus we work with an agile mindset, each team choose their way of working: Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), Kanban, Lean Software practices... The cross-functional dev team holds full ownership, from idea to production with a DevOps mindset: you build it you run it.


What you will be responsible for

You will be focused on creating data architecture awareness for the teams. Some of the responsibilities you will be accountable for, includes:

  • Ensure data governance according to Data & Analytics defined policies
  • Ensure proper metadata management, including clear ownership within the product area
  • Supervise integrations to the zooplus central data platform, within the product area
  • Organize and support data transparency and documentation
  • Support and improve teams maturity in optimizing, maintaining and operating their data storage technologies, e.g., by organizing trainings or workshops
  • Consult teams on data topics like modeling, integrations, infrastructure, technologies and automations
  • Keep a close relationship with data experts across the company and the domain teams
  • Help defining goals and priorities for data topics together with the team and area architect (such as our technical goals defined by domain architect)
  • Support the area architect and take responsibility for any urgent data related topic within the product area

Requirements

What we are looking for

To work together in an optimal way in this position, we wish your qualifications to include:

  • (Preferable) Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Relevant experience in coaching and mentoring engineers
  • Well established Data Modeling skills (Conceptual, Logical and Physical)
  • Preferable experience in OLTP vs. OLAP vs. Big Data
  • Skilled in SQL and experience with other query languages
  • Knowledge about the concepts of relational vs non-relational data stores
  • Knowledge about different DB technologies like Oracle, Postgres, MySQL (not engine level)
  • Knowledgeable and experienced working with architectural aspects (e.g. Service Oriented, Microservices, Data Integration Patterns like Synch vs Async, Cached vs on-demand)
  • Very good conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Fluent English, both speaking and writing
